DSHA Track and Field FAQ:

1. How often does the team practice?
We practice every day during the week. All athletes are expected to attend practice every day.

2. Why are there so many different practice times?
With the gym being torn down we had to improvise this year, especially for the month of March. We rented the gym at St. Joe’s and the gym is too small to do meaningful sprint workouts but it does have a high jump mat for jumping drills. We will use the hallways and stairs at DSHA for non-distance workouts on certain days in March (like we have in the past). Distance athletes will workout at 3:15 PM at DSHA for March. Pole Vaulters vault at Marquette High School so they practice at 3:30 PM at Marquette on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s (and maybe some Saturdays). Our new Throw coach is only available after 5:30 PM so Throwers will workout then. All of this changes once the weather warms and we all workout outdoors together at Milwaukee Lutheran at 5:30 PM.

3. What do I bring to practice?
Always bring warm clothes and prepare to workout outside. Sweatpants, sweatshirt, gloves and hats. This past winter doesn’t seem to want to end and I’m afraid the snow may be around for a while. Make sure you have newer training shoes.

4. I’ve never competed in Track and Field before. What events should I do? Who should I workout with?
It’s always a good idea to have an open mind when deciding what events to do in high school. Just because you sprinted in grade school doesn’t mean you have to sprint in high school. We always recommend that athletes try different events and stick with what appeals to them. Don’t worry about not knowing how to do an event, we will show you.

5. How do I get to meets?
DSHA does not provide busses for Track and Field meets except for the UW-Whitewater and Kettle Moraine meets. It is the responsibility of each athlete to get to the track meet at least an hour before their event. The Head Coach and Event Coach will provide guidelines on who should get to the meet when.
